Manitoulin Transport today announced it celebrates its 50th anniversary of operations in Canada this summer.
Founded in 1960 by Doug Smith, now chair, The Manitoulin Group of Companies, Manitoulin Transport is a privately held, family-owned company that has experienced considerable growth since its inception in Gore Bay, Manitoulin Island, 50 years ago.
“This year we’re celebrating a true Canadian success story,” said Gord Smith, president, Manitoulin Transport. “A story created from the ground up, driven by customer commitment and achieved through the dedication of our people.”
Manitoulin Transport had only a couple of vehicles when it started out, initially carrying freight to various points on Manitoulin Island. It quickly set about growing the business and earning a good share of the market by providing a level of service and a suite of offerings that would set the standard in the industry.
Over the years, Manitoulin Transport has evolved purposefully to keep pace with a changing global marketplace, meet customers’ current and anticipated needs and to consistently provide superior value. A number of strategic acquisitions has spurred its growth and its ability to partner with customers to extend their businesses across Canada, the United States and around the world. Today it’s proud to be an industry-leading, global transportation provider.
“This is a time for reflection on where we’ve been and where we plan to go,” said Gord Smith. “We’re always looking for ways to do better and do more, and that’s something we hope to do for another 50 years.”
